Atheros’ Momentum Continues from Its
Wi-Fi Origins to Ethernet, Bluetooth and GPS to Address the Convergence of
Networking, Computing and Entertainment
CES CONFERENCE, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7,
2008 — Atheros Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHR), a leading
developer of advanced wireless and wired solutions, today announced it is
demonstrating its broadly expanded technology portfolio at the 2008
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at its booth at the LVCC, South
Hall 4, #35349. The company’s technology momentum is intersecting the rapidly
expanding demand for converged networking, computing and entertainment in an
array of fixed and mobile devices.
ROCm® for GPS Technology
Atheros will demonstrate its new GPS solutions, featuring
the single-chip receiver, teamed with the powerful ORION multimode navigation
software. These solutions, currently shipping in volume, are ideal for
location-based services in personal navigation devices, PCs, mobile handsets and
other consumer devices. The addition of GPS to Atheros Radio-on-Chip for Mobile
(ROCm) family expands the value the company delivers to its customers, and its
share of the total bill of materials for mobile devices.
XSPAN® 802.11n Technology
Atheros XSPAN designs targeting PC platforms, broadband
home gateways, wireless routers and set-top box/media receivers will be
demonstrated at the show, including the world’s first-to-market, most-compact,
single-chip 802.11n solution. XSPAN is the most widely adopted 802.11n
technology worldwide in the retail networking, PC, and enterprise markets. The
company has shipped more than 10 million XSPAN chipsets to date, due to its
performance edge and drive to bring 802.11n pricing to levels that enable its
mass market adoption in wireless products.
Atheros Advanced Home Networking
The company will demonstrate Atheros iQUE™ technology which
provides Intelligence for a Quality User Experience, enhancing multimedia
networking for the home. Atheros will also demonstrate advanced mesh networking
capabilities which feature PC-based, direct, multi-client connectivity.
Near-Zero Power Mobile WLAN
Solutions
The industry-leading WLAN performance and power-savings of
the Atheros AR6002 solutions will be demonstrated at the show. These newest
designs from Atheros ROCm family for mobile WLAN consume 70 percent less power
than competitive solutions on the market in active mode and draw virtually zero
power in standby. This performance breakthrough effectively eliminates the power
consumption challenges facing mobile designers when determining whether to
include Wi-Fi in devices like smartphones, personal media players, digital still
cameras, gaming and other portable consumer devices.
ETHOS™ Family of Ethernet
Products, Atheros Engineered.
Atheros will demonstrate its latest Gigabit Ethernet
solutions which deliver the bandwidth to the LAN essential to optimizing 802.11n
performance. Atheros now offers a complete and growing line-up of Fast and
Gigabit Ethernet solutions that target PC and networking applications. With its
ETHOS and XSPAN products, Atheros delivers the total silicon solution to its
networking customers for wireless APs, routers and carrier gateway platforms.
The company has shipped more than 23 million Ethernet devices (PHYs, controllers
and switches) to date due to the rapid adoption of its small, low-power and
lowest-cost, Gigabit Ethernet solutions.

Portfolio
Atheros will demonstrate its low-cost, highly-integrated
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR solutions—expressly designed to optimize coexistence with
Atheros WLAN—for the PC and mono headset markets.
